To obtain employment on board a seagoing vessel every citizen of Pakistan is entitled to acquire a Seaman Service Book (SSB) in accordance with the provision of Merchant Shipping Ordinance 2001. A Seaman's service book is a necessary document for those who want to join "merchant field" in any position. Every seafarer need seaman service book SSB. Below is a complete procedure to get new seaman service book SSB from government of Pakistan. Note that you can only make SSB from Karachi city because shipping office and other departments are in Karachi.

PROCESS TO MAKE NEW SSB (SEAMAN SERVICE BOOK)
Procedure of making new seaman service book SSB includes some very basic and important requirements to all applicants. These requirements of "low position employee" for making new SSB are listed below. The list of required documents for New seaman service book is here.
- Minimum qualification is Matric (10th class).
- Minimum age is 18 years and Maximum age is 35 years.
- Proof of nationality (Pakistani CNIC or Passport).
- Medical fitness certificate.
STEP BY STEP PROCESS TO MAKE NEW ELECTRICIAN SSB
You have to start the process as following to make your new seaman service book (SSB) of ELECTRICIAN POSITION from Karachi Pakistan. The step by step procedure is same of all positions,
- First, select your working position. Position is depending on your education. Go to MMD (marine mercantile department, Kemari, near to KPT flyover, Karachi), show your educational documents, and select your SSB's position. As i mentioned above, this process is of electrician position.
- Go to MMD, and tell them that you want to apply for Electrician's SSB. they will ask you some requirements. Complete the documents for new ssb and submit there.
- They will tell you the date of eye test for SSB.
- After the eye test, they will tell you exam date and time. Prepare for the exam of Electrician SSB.
- After success in the exam, you will receive "Certificate of Competency" from Marine Mercantile Department. Collect it from MMD.
- Now, go to KDL Building (back side of tower, karachi - Google Map is here). In the first floor, go to the last office where you fill find sir imdad. Go there and collect an application form for NEW SSB.
- He will tell you the list of documents, complete the documents and submit application form.
- After 1 week, he will issue you an NOC for new SSB. Collect it and go to the shipping office, submit there and after 15 days you will receive your new SSB.
